Well everyone has been patiently waiting to find out the results of the graft. I am happy to report that ALL grafts have taken and the tree is doing very well. As an added bonus the grafts took so well that both ends of the grafts are putting out leaves. This means that leaves are growing from where the graft went in (not always happens) and where the graft came out of the tree. I’m just going to let this one grow out this year and gain strength. I finally took the time to sort through all the new growth branches. Wasn’t easy but a lot to choose from. As you can see branches are sprouting out in all the right places. I need to clean up the large cut near the top to give it a better taper, but this tree should really take some shape this year. April 2005

April 2005 – Some areas have filled in since last year. I shortened the right bottom branch to help center the tree over the trunk. It look more balanced this way. I defoliated the tree about a month ago, so the leave are a bit smaller than they will be and the tree will be more filled in that it is now.

April 2005 – Each year I find that I have to cut back the new growth to promote growth for the next year. You can see how the new foliage comes in a bit green.
