My first thought was, keep this tree alive. So I repotted it immediately into my favorite bonsai soil mix

So seriously, where do you start?

This is the tree that was given to me. It is a HUGE bougainvillea, estimated to be over 50 years old. This tree took a lot of thinking before I could begin working on it. Oh and it has a lot of thorns (ouch!)

Just a mess of crossed branches

Finally the tree has gone dormant (with a little help).

As you see in the pictures to the left there was some bad scarring, and cuts that needed to be smoothed out.

It is a tropic plant, and grows very fast. Very uncommon, however gaining attention as a bonsai. This tree is only 1 1/2 years old and has nearly a 1/2″ trunk. Just letting it grow out and develop branches before working on this one. (September 2003)
